Electroplated Stone: The Fusion of Stone and Metal

Yuki

What is electroplated stone? The term refers to a novel material in the world of stone known as "electroplated stone." It is created by utilizing an electrolytic process to deposit metals or alloys onto the surface of natural stone, forming a metallic coating. This metallic layer enhances the luster and wear resistance, conveying a futuristic aesthetic. As we all know, designers are fond of various new materials, and electroplated stone has become popular in design circles. Electroplated stone (with a texture somewhat similar to volcanic rock, featuring metallic sensibilities in its porous patterns).

It is understood that electroplating is a process that uses the principle of electrolysis to coat the surface of a metal object with a layer of metal or alloy. This工艺 involves attaching a thin metallic film to the surface of a material through electrolytic action, serving to prevent oxidation (such as rusting), improve wear resistance, conductivity, reflectivity, corrosion resistance (such as to copper sulfate), and enhance aesthetics. Many coins have an outer layer made of electroplated material.

Electroplating is an electrochemical process, also an oxidation-reduction process. The basic process of electroplating involves immersing parts in a solution of metal salts as the cathode, with a metal plate serving as the anode. Upon connecting to a direct current power source, the desired plating layer is deposited onto the parts.

In the electroplating process, there is a chemical plating step. Chemical plating does not require electricity. That is, before electroplating, a metal conductive layer is created on the non-conductive stone surface using a chemical plating method. Afterward, electroplating can be applied not only to stones but also to wood, plastic, leaves, flowers, and more, following the same principle.

Common colors include silver, black, gold, green, red, blue, purple, and others.

The conventional size available on the market is currently 5030010mm.

Installation Method

Tiles can be laid using ceramic tile adhesive or structural adhesive. When laying, a cross card positioning device can be used for easier alignment. It is recommended to leave a 2-3mm gap for smaller tiles and a 3-5mm gap for larger tiles.

Common laying patterns include flat laying, herringbone, and chevron.

Price

The market price averages between 600 and 800 USD per square meter (material prices are subject to various influences and can fluctuate significantly; this serves as a reference only).

Electroplated stone, designed with a porous stone base, is highly polished to impart a metallic luster, increase strength, and enhance the product's wear resistance and gloss. With its high-quality texture and flexible combination options, it has become the preferred material for high-end venues and CBD commercial areas.
